Hey there – I am Stine (pronounced Steen). I am a family psychotherapist and couples counsellor and I work with individuals as well as families and couples. I enjoy supporting clients of all ages and genders in creating and maintaining healthy relationships with others and with self.
I mainly work with clients who identify as neurodivergent (autistic, ADHD, gifted, twice exceptional), and I have a special interest in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) as well as anxiety disorders in general.
My therapeutic approach is strength-based and empowering. I am guided by a trauma-informed, integrative, evidence-based, and person-centred framework.
I use a range of therapeutic techniques that encourage my clients to discover their own resources to engage with and overcome what may be challenging right now. These techniques include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Animal Assisted Therapy.
I am a graduate of the Specialist Course in Integrative Couple Counselling. I hold a Master of Counselling and a university certificate in neuro affirming education. I have a PhD, with a teaching and research background. I am registered with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australian (29127), the Australian Counselling Association (19915), and the NDIS (NWS13479126).
Clients often ask me to explain the difference between a registered psychotherapist and a psychologist. My university training and my daily work is very similar to my psychologist colleagues. We all support our clients in the therapeutic process and when required we provide our clients with verbal and written supports. Unlike my psychology colleagues, I do not conduct cognitive or ADHD assessments, but I will refer clients to a suitable practitioner for these assessments. I offer private health insurance rebates and NDIS rebates. Medicare rebates do not apply to sessions with me, but this can suit clients, who are looking for an added element of privacy.
I always work alongside Irma, my loving and playful black Labrador, in providing care and support for clients. When the two of us are not at work, you will find us enjoying music, running, swimming, and exploring the outdoors with family and friends. Right at this moment, I am trying to alleviate my own fear of heights by doing as much indoor climbing and bouldering as I can fit in. Irma comes along.
