Dr Katie Waters

Dr Katie Waters is a paediatric clinical psychologist who works with children from infancy through to adolescence who present with a wide variety of emotional, behavioural, developmental and learning concerns.

Katie has particular interests in anxiety, behavioural concerns (including sleeping, eating, toileting and challenging behaviours), supporting young people manage chronic illnesses, and providing parenting support.

Background and experience

Katie has worked in a range of paediatric mental health settings, including private practice as well as community and hospital-based services. She has worked as a clinician at the Child and Family Psychology Clinic since 2009, and enjoys providing assessment and treatment for children and adolescents presenting with a wide range of concerns, as well as supporting parents and families.

Katie’s therapeutic approach primarily involves Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, drawing on additional therapies, such as ACT and Mindfulness, where appropriate.

Katie holds a Doctorate of Psychology (Clinical Child Specialisation) and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the University of Melbourne. Her theses focused on: the precursors of externalising behaviours in preschoolers; and predictors and outcomes of differing patterns of adolescent alcohol use.

Katie is registered and endorsed as a Clinical Psychologist with the Australian Board of Psychology and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society.
